Voted one of the best beaches in the world, Whitehaven Beach is usually on all tourists must see list whilst in the Whitsundays.
Whitehaven Beach is famous for its incredibly white
silica sand and is the most photographed beach in Australia and has
been named Queenslands Most Beautiful Beach by Keep Australia
Beautiful, Queensland.
The crystal clear aqua waters and pristine silica sand of Whitehaven stretch over seven kilometres along Whitsunday Island, the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsundays group.
The sand at Whitehaven Beach is 98% pure silica. The water lapping
along the beach which is usually sheltered during the south easterly
trade winds, most of the year, and so the water where the sea meets the
beach is often crystal clear making for perfect swimming conditions.
The view from the lookout across Hill Inlet, the northern end of Whitehaven Beach,
is remarkable and on a
sunny day, as most days are, it is nothing short of spectacular. Tides
shift the sand and water to create a beautiful fusion of colours.
Whilst the more adventurous can try ocean rafting, sea-kayaking or a
jet boat trip out to the island there are also options to travel by
seaplane or helicopter for a spectacular aerial view over the iconic
beach, Whitsunday Island and Hill Inlet and indulge in a champagne
picnic on your own private beach.
However you choose to explore Whitehaven Beach, it will be an experience that you will remember for a lifetime.
