The Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park offers a vibrant and unique underwater world just waiting to be explored. Snorkelling and Scuba Diving are at your fingertips, and Whitsundays provide for many different diving experiences for both certified, introductory and those beginning or finishing a course. Just some few hours away is the outer barrier reef which is visited by only a few of the Whitsundays vessels and provides for adventurous and memorable diving. The fringing reefs of the Islands are a popular destination due to being easily accessible and having safe anchorages.
ISLAND DIVING SITES
Blue Pearl Bay:
A popular diving spot due to the great visibility. The bay offers diving to 18 metres with a diverse selection of corals including staghorn and plate, with Parrotfish, cod, coral trout, nudibranchs and fusiliers are some of the common inhabitants.
Maureen's Cove:
Good for both snorkelling and shallow diving, well protected cove with diving to 15 metres. Coral features staghorn, plate and bommies rise from 12 metres. Fish common to this area are Angelfish, butterfly cod, parrotfish, bream, batfish and coral trout.
The Pinnacles:
Home to some of the best corals in the Whitsundays, mainly hard corals with gorganians. Bommies rise within 3 metres of the surface, so also ideal for snorkelling with visibility and the beach. Frequently visited by Manta Rays between May - Otcober, otherwise the giant Maori Wrasse, Parrotfish, coral trout and nudibranchs will keep you entertained
OUTER REEF DIVING SITES
Bait Reef:
Visited mainly by DiveTime, Anaconda III, Kiana or Pacific Star, this site offers diverse diving ranging from shallow garden coral to a wall dropping 20 metres. Deep caves, manta rays, fragile coral, black coral and fans.
The Stepping Stones:
Very good visibility, these are a series of bommies which run fro the lagoon to the north-west side of Bait Reef. Diverse range of coral and marine life, with good diving for both intro and certified.
