There is a walk established by National Parks which lead from the shore at Tongue Bay to one of the most famous photgraph locations in the Whitsundays, the Hill Inlet lookout. The walk is about 700 or 800 metres long but well worth the effort, the views over Hill Inlet are absolutely stunning.

Tongue Bay comes from the naming of Tongue Point in 1879 by Admiralty Surveyor for Queensland, Staff Commander E.P. Bedwell, RN in chartered SS Llewellyn. Between it and Peter Head lies Apostle Bay, both named by Bedwell at the same time. A Biblical reference to Saint Peter and the Apostles and their gathering together at Pentecost when "cloven tongues as of fire sat upon them .. and they began to speak with other tongues"
